How to get Netflix for roughly half the price

By: Marwan, February 8, 2016
After a sudden expansion, Netflix is now available in almost every country. Chances are you already have a Netflix subscription or you're considering one. If you already have a Netflix subscription then you'll need to make a new account in order to take advantage of this half-price workaround.

Not many people are aware that Netflix charges different prices in different countries. I've done some googling and it seems that Netflix in Colombia is cheaper than anywhere else in the world.

In the UK, a basic Netflix plan will cost you £6 a month, while the premium costs £9 a month. In contrast, the basic plan in Colombia costs the equivalent of £3.5 while the premium costs only £6. So you could be getting premium for the same price as a basic plan if you follow this trick.

Here's what you need to do.

Internet temporarily down? Try this with Chrome

By: Marwan, July 17, 2015
There are many scenarios in which you may be left with a few minutes with no internet. Instead of endlessly refreshing your browser hoping to see the webpage load, Google is offering a more fun option to Chrome users.

What may look like a boring page with a random dinosaur is in fact, a hidden game. Tap the up arrow on your keyboard and the random dinosaur will jump up, and the game will start. All you do is jump over cacti, but it's certainly a lot more fun than hitting F5 forever. Once you regain internet connection I believe the game ends itself and your page loads, otherwise try and raise your high score.

The game is fairly easy after a few tries. Regardless, it's a fun way to pass those few minutes that may seem endless.

Deleting Safari History Does Not Remove All Traces Of A Website From Your iPhone

By: Marwan, August 30, 2014
It’s common habit by many iPhone users to clear browsing history from safari. However the assumption usually is that this removes all evidence of visited websites from the iPhone. Unfortunately that’s not the case.

Your iPhone automatically stores website data, this is visible in the settings app. Website data is used to help improve your safari experience as it saves your data and loads it for you. The problem with this is that even when you clear your history, your website data remains visible from the settings app. This could expose certain websites you’ve visited in the past.

Don’t worry though, there’s always a solution!

iOS 8 is for the developers .. then the users

By: Marwan, June 13, 2014
On June 2nd, Apple announced iOS 8 and Mac OS X Yosemite at it's World Wide Developer Conference. In this post I'll be focusing more on iOS 8.

Considering that just last year Apple redeisgned iOS 7 from the ground up, it wasn't expected that we see any major redesigns this year. Additionally a Mac redesign took place this year. When Apple redesigned iOS last summer the Mac got a very small upgrade so I wasn't hoping for much to begin with.

Although I am pleased with some of the user-end upgrades in iOS 8 I'll admit that I was disappointed by having no major breakthroughs. That's the case for now. But what most people aren't aware of is that iOS 8 is an update that empowered developers to do much more so that in return the users are happy.

Insight into the Role of Technology in Academic Achievements

By: Marwan, June 13, 2014
This is a guest post by Ebin Mathew. He gives us insight into the role of technology in academic achievements. More details about Ebin at the end of the post.

Nearly every aspect of our life involves technology to a certain extent and academics certainly aren’t an exception… and, it should not be either, since it has proven to help the field in all the imaginable ways. In fact, the application and use largely depends upon the creativity of the academicians and students.

A decade and a half back, when it was initially introduced in schools, it was very limited and was used mostly to learn the subject of computers; today the scene has changed, students hardly carry paper and pens in many cases. Why has it taken over the education system so largely? Well, here are a few factors explaining the same:

Google vs Apple [Infographic]

By: Marwan, March 2, 2014
I don't usually like to share any Apple vs Google articles on my blog as it will almost certainly end with an "Apple is better than Google" or "Google is better than Apple". I personally believe it's opinionated. There is currently no company that is completely better than the other one in all aspects.

Having said that, below is an infographic titled Apple vs Google. The infographic shows differences in ideas and the history of the two companies, and it's certainly a good piece for any tech fan to take a look at.

There is room for improvement for smartphones, and today I'm sharing with you an infographic from the folks at Computer Science Hub that shows the 4 big ways smartphones are expected to improve in the near future. I hope you like it.

What's the point of the Scroll Lock button?

By: Marwan, December 15, 2013
The scroll lock key was intended to provide scrolling of text up & down, or right & left in applications. This was useful before screens got bigger and before full screen applications became so common. However, in the modern day, the scroll lock feature has been replaced by scroll bars and simpler methods of navigation.

Scroll lock was also used in the Linux console to pause text from scrolling past the user, and therefore allowing the user to take a look at the text.

Although the scroll lock buttons appears like an extra wasted button on your keyboard, there are some applications that still make use of it. The most common ones are Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and IBM Lotus Notes. Having said that, the scroll lock is not a necessity in any of these applications. An article on Wikipedia shows other uses for the Scroll Lock button.

How to insert and see Emoji on Windows

By: Marwan, October 18, 2013
Just recently I posted a short tutorial on how to insert emojis on Mac, but today I'll show you a quick way to insert and see emoji on a Windows. Note: this method works on Mac too.

As you probably know, emoji don't appear correctly on Windows. The fix to this is to open a website called iemoji.com. This website lets you convert the boxes and question marks seen on Windows to emojis. Additionally, it shows you a list of emojis which you can use in your own tweets or documents. They will appear as boxes everywhere except iemoji for you, but Apple users will see them as emoji. The site is pretty self explanatory but if you don't know how to use it I'll show you using images below.

By: Marwan, August 29, 2013
The screenshots used in this article have been taken in the Twitter app for iPhone. The instructions are similar for other phones and even for the web.

One of the problems I used to face with Twitter was when good accounts retweet bad tweets. If you follow accounts that tweet jokes and retweet sponsored tweets then you'll find this tutorial very helpful. Even if you're not, and you just want to stop seeing retweets from a certain user on your timeline then this guide will be particularly useful to you.

Here's the step-by-step guide.
