Best free apps to watch movies and tv shows on iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac & PC

By: Marwan, September 26, 2014
Before you go ahead and read the article, please be aware that all the apps below use piracy for content. While Alwaraki Blog is against piracy, people living in countries in the Middle East and elsewhere where there’s no Netflix or a good selection of movies and shows on iTunes have no choice other than piracy.

If you have a method of watching shows and movies legally please do not pirate.

They Need To Be Fed 3 Review

By: Marwan, August 31, 2014
On August 19, They Need To Be Fed (TNTBF) hit the trilogy mark. The game started off on PC then made its way into iOS almost four years ago. I've never played any version of TNTBF in the past, so it was exciting to give the third version a try.

The concept of the game is pretty simple. You need to move your character around levels of rotating blocks while dodging spikes and picking up diamonds until you reach a hungry plant at the end of the level. The game has a little twist in it which makes it a lot more fun: Gravity isn't pulling your character down. Instead, every block has it's own small gravitational field and you jump from one block into another. You can not fall off and die as you're always withing a block's gravitational field.

Deleting Safari History Does Not Remove All Traces Of A Website From Your iPhone

By: Marwan, August 30, 2014
It’s common habit by many iPhone users to clear browsing history from safari. However the assumption usually is that this removes all evidence of visited websites from the iPhone. Unfortunately that’s not the case.

Your iPhone automatically stores website data, this is visible in the settings app. Website data is used to help improve your safari experience as it saves your data and loads it for you. The problem with this is that even when you clear your history, your website data remains visible from the settings app. This could expose certain websites you’ve visited in the past.

Don’t worry though, there’s always a solution!

Pako Review- Fun Car Game for iPhone & iPad

By: Marwan, August 22, 2014
The App Store isn’t short of games at all. Yet sometimes people struggle in finding the right game to play on their iPhones. I spend a lot of time looking for fun games and I have found a great one: Pako.

Pako is a simple car game. The objective is to drive around and avoid crashing into anything as your car will blow up if you crash. To spice up the game, there are police cars chasing you around the area and you have to dodge them too as well as the traffic, buildings and lamp posts. One of the areas even has tanks which fire at you!

How to Use Third Party Alarm Apps Properly on iPhone

By: Marwan, August 16, 2014
With the release of iOS 8, Apple has shown the world that it's moving towards a more flexible and open system with Extensions. One of the most annoying limitations I face that has not yet been addressed is how alarm apps can not bypass Do Not Disturb. Do Not Disturb is a feature Apple announced with iOS 6 that silents your notifications completely and avoids the screen lighting up or your phone vibrating during the night. I rely on this feature to ensure I get my peaceful goodnight sleep.

However, the alarm in iOS is the only app that can bypass Do Not Disturb (as well as phone but that's off by default). I recently downloaded CARROT Alarm. It makes waking up a lot more fun than regular alarms. However it requires me to keep my phone unlocked and the app running if I want to wake up since it can't bypass Do Not Disturb.

I figured out a little trick that avoids this whole problem.

Lucky Dragon- a game that makes dragons cute

By: Marwan, August 8, 2014

Apple updates the hardware of the iPhone every year to allow it to run games with more intense graphics and gameplay. The iPhone 5S features a powerful 64 bit processor that allows the 4 inch device to run games with almost console-level graphics. Yet, users tend to like simple games with minimal graphics that require a tap or so to play a game (think of flappy bird).

I am one of those users who wants a quick game to play on the go, and if you are too, then I'm sure you'll enjoy Lucky Dragon.

iOS 8 is for the developers .. then the users

By: Marwan, June 13, 2014
On June 2nd, Apple announced iOS 8 and Mac OS X Yosemite at it's World Wide Developer Conference. In this post I'll be focusing more on iOS 8.

Considering that just last year Apple redeisgned iOS 7 from the ground up, it wasn't expected that we see any major redesigns this year. Additionally a Mac redesign took place this year. When Apple redesigned iOS last summer the Mac got a very small upgrade so I wasn't hoping for much to begin with.

Although I am pleased with some of the user-end upgrades in iOS 8 I'll admit that I was disappointed by having no major breakthroughs. That's the case for now. But what most people aren't aware of is that iOS 8 is an update that empowered developers to do much more so that in return the users are happy.

Insight into the Role of Technology in Academic Achievements

By: Marwan, June 13, 2014
This is a guest post by Ebin Mathew. He gives us insight into the role of technology in academic achievements. More details about Ebin at the end of the post.

Nearly every aspect of our life involves technology to a certain extent and academics certainly aren’t an exception… and, it should not be either, since it has proven to help the field in all the imaginable ways. In fact, the application and use largely depends upon the creativity of the academicians and students.

A decade and a half back, when it was initially introduced in schools, it was very limited and was used mostly to learn the subject of computers; today the scene has changed, students hardly carry paper and pens in many cases. Why has it taken over the education system so largely? Well, here are a few factors explaining the same:

WiPi- Quickly switch between Wifi networks on iPhone

By: Marwan, April 16, 2014
Among the many new features introduced in iOS 7, the new Control Center was one of the most useful upgrades. Users no longer need to open the settings app to make very small changes such as toggling bluetooth or increasing the brightness. However, one thing which Apple missed out on is the ability to scan and connect to WiFi whenever the user demands it without having to open the settings app.

Currently, a user is offered to allow the iPhone to ask to join networks. But the popup doesn't always come at the right time. Additionally, it's better to keep that toggle turned off to help save battery.

Jailbroken iPhone users are offered a solution by @Bensge, one of the developers who worked on  Velox. Bensge released a tweak called WiPi some time ago in Cydia, before the introduction of iOS 7. WiPi has been updated to take advantage of the Control Center.

Eclipse- Night Mode on iPhone

By: Marwan, April 12, 2014
Perhaps one of my biggest requests for iOS 8 is a Night Mode feature. Many users, myself included, use their iPhones at night for a few hours before sleeping. The problem with this is that even when the brightness of the iPhone is set to the lowest, it still burns my eyes. I'm not the only one facing this issue, and this is what encouraged Guillermo MorĂ¡n (fr0st) to develop Eclipse.

Eclipse is a Cydia tweak that provides system wide night mode on iOS. It replaces the bright white backgrounds in iOS with much darker ones. The user can choose between 8 themes, I use 'Night'. You can also set a color for buttons and for the statusbar since they may look awkward if left unchanged.

Below is a side by side comparison showing Eclipse in action:

By: Marwan, March 31, 2014
Photo editing is extremely popular nowadays due to the ease of editing. Anyone can take a picture and with a single tap apply filters to it making it look more professional. However, one thing which has always fallen behind from beginners is the ability to combine two pictures together.

You can learn how to photoshop pictures but here's the problem, you need to learn how to do it. I recently stumbled into this app called PhotoLayers.

The app makes the process of combining images as layers very simple. You set a background image and then add other layers to your image. The result is that you can create images like the one below.

Create Notes anywhere on your iPhone using NoteCreator

By: Marwan, March 8, 2014
Notes are useful as they help you jot a few ideas on the go before they disappear in your memory. The Notes app on iOS 7 is simple, clean and provides a distraction free experience to take down notes. However, it involves a few steps to use as you have to unlock your phone, open the Notes app and add a new note.

You can improve this experience by reducing the steps required to take notes. This will require a jailbroken iPhone and a Cydia tweak called NoteCreator.

By: Marwan, February 23, 2014
Smartphones are credited for being so advanced and convenient. Most modern smartphones show you directions to a nearby shop without you needing to even touch the screen. There are however limitations that have been created. I used to charge my very old Nokia once a month, and now an average smartphone is charged 2.4 times a day in New York.

There is room for improvement for smartphones, and today I'm sharing with you an infographic from the folks at Computer Science Hub that shows the 4 big ways smartphones are expected to improve in the near future. I hope you like it.

Prevent apps from using up your cellular data on iOS 7

By: Marwan, February 21, 2014
The iPhone is a good tool for accessing internet on the go, and is now more commonly used very regularly for internet usage. Unfortunately if you're not connected to Wi-Fi this could lead to drainage in your cellular data. Which could ultimately cost you some extra cash.

Thankfully, with iOS 7 you can restrict certain apps from accessing your cellular data. This is especially handy for games that only use your cellular data to load ads. So by disabling internet access for the game, you'll save money as well as not see ads!

If this sounds good to you, then here's the best part. All it takes is 3 steps to do this.

For some people, GameBoy is nothing but a gaming device. For others, it was a childhood. Either way, I'm sure most iPhone users would love a bit of Gameboy fun on their modern smart phone.

GBA4iOS is a popular emulator that has been completely redesigned to support iOS 7. An important update that has been made after the previous version is support for downloading games for your virtual GameBoy through the app itself.

How to hack Flappy Bird on iPhone

By: Marwan, February 7, 2014
Flappy Bird is the most frustrating and annoying game you've ever played on your iPhone. The developer claims his game has hit 50M downloads and generates $50k per day in ad revenue. And while developer Dong Nguyen is celebrating his success, some people can't even get past 10 pipes before their bird crashes into one of the pipes.

Fortunately, you can now celebrate a successful high score too, without the need to spend hours of your life mastering the game and avoiding to smash your iPhone. How? By a simple hack. All you need is a jailbroken iPhone and iFile (free). If Flappy Bird is running in the multitask then be sure to close it from there before starting this tutorial.

Below is a step by step tutorial to hack Flappy Bird!

Get Jellybean like unlocker on iOS 7 for free using JellyLock7

By: Marwan, February 1, 2014
Android vs Apple wars aside, there are some features in iPhone that some Android users want. Similarly, there are some features available in Android that some iPhone users want. I like the jelly bean unlocker, and I was glad to find a tweak that brings this feature to the iPhone in Cydia this morning.

The jelly bean unlocker replaces your slide to unlock with a shiny white circle which you can customize (more details later on in the post). I kept it as default for now. Read on for a review as well as screenshots of the unlocker and how it works.

If you have a jailbroken iPhone, then one of the things you may have noticed is the status bar is always showing in the default apps that came with your iPhone (e.g. Safari, Videos, Photos). It simply never goes away.
