This is a guest post by Blaine Kelton. Blaine shares 5 trending apps that you should try if you haven't already done so.
The iTunes Store and Google Play are both beyond-brimming with new and notable apps, many of which can be yours on the cheap—or just the cost of your bandwidth (aka free). And with so many choices comes the eventual quandary, especially for newcomers to smartphones: Where do I even start?! It's a good question and one that I myself have struggled with as I continue to get more interested in tech, particularly mobile phones. So in trying to help out readers with the same issue, I've put together a list of five recent apps that are well worth your time.
Threes!
Have you heard of the game Threes!? I haven't. Well, I hadn't until I stumbled across a Business Insider article explaining how popular the game has been over the past few months. The way it works is simple: You connect different tiles to come up with the highest score. That ridiculously straightforward approach is probably why so many imitators popped up, though you should stick to the original.
Tango
The Tango app is easily the most essential of this bunch. Why? Because it allows you to make free calls, send free texts and picture messages, and much more all through the app. This is particularly useful for international folks looking to avoid any possible overages on their bill because of roaming, so make sure you grab this before heading out of your coverage area.
7 Minute Workout Challenge
I've been looking for a way to bang out a quick workout, and I have to say that the 7 Minute Workout Challenge is going quite well. Kudos to this article at Verizon for informing me of this new app, because it's been kicking my butt the past few weeks and I have never felt better. Seriously, it's easy to get caught in a post-college slump of non-exercise and laziness, but this app got me back in shape.
CastleStorm
Yes, another game, but this one's a bit different. The now-free CastleStorm—Free to Siege is a blend of 2D destruction and tower defense. If you've been gaming on your smartphone (or elsewhere), you have probably played a slew of tower defense titles. While that may lead you away from CastleStorm, give it a shot— Zen Studios did a fine job mixing gaming styles here and keep it a refreshing experience.
Tastebuds
As written by NextWeb, Tastebuds has finally gone mobile. If you're not already acquainted with Tastebuds, it's essentially a super-specific dating service because it matches potential couples through their tastes in music. Get it? Anyway, this is a must have simply for those of you tired of the same old approach to dating, especially if you're the type to keep your earbuds at full volume all the time.
Have you tried out any of these apps before? Are any apps missing out?
